About Us

Our History

Winnersh Dance Club was founded by Sidney Hatcher and his wife Vera, residents of Winnersh.
The club officially opened in March 1975 with a Ballroom Dance Section, Barn Dance Section and a Sequence Dance Section.

Dance sessions were held weekly with Sidney on hand to assist and encourage members as needed. These three Sections continued until 1981 when they combined to form the
Winnersh and District Ballroom Dancing Club, now known as Winnersh Dance Club.

The Club met in a variety of venues until being asked to use Winnersh Community Hall when it first opened. The Club was the first club in residence and has remained since then dancing, on their very nice wood block floor.

Over the years Committee Members and Officers have arranged the Club weekly evenings, tea and coffee, raffles (initially at their own expense), Special Dances, Club Anniversary Celebrations, Afternoon Tea Dances, Dance Weekend Breaks, even a stall at a very wet and windy Winnersh Fete!

Each Thursday night, with the exception of our August break, our friendly club of dancers, with a range of experience, meet to learn new dance steps taught by a qualified experienced dance instructor followed by tea/coffee and a chat then social dancing. We enjoy dancing Ballroom, Latin and Modern Sequence dances to a varied range of music.

Unfortunately our club is not suitable for beginners or those who have never danced.

Four times a year we hold a Special Social Dance with a theme, depending on the time of year, where themed fancy dress or smart casual are optional.
An external Music Provider is engaged for these evenings and we have an evening of dancing, food, drink, games and a raffle. Dancing friends and family may also be invited as guests to these dances.

Winnersh Dance Club will be celebrating our 50th birthday in 2025, with events throughout the year.
